MESSAGE FROM MRS ROBINSON

As we draw to the end of this academic year, I want to take this opportunity to thank all in our Bosmere community for your support throughout the year. It has been an amazing year, with so many exciting events and so many things to celebrate. The children have all been absolutely brilliant. We will be sorry to say goodbye to our lovely bunch of Year 6 pupils, as they continue on their journey to secondary school and wish them the best of luck in their endeavours.

  • Wednesday 3rd September
  • Friday 3rd October
  • Monday 23rd February
  • Monday 13th April
  • Monday 1st June

SPORTS DAY

We had a brilliant day on Sports Day at the end of June. Thank you to all the parents who came to support and well done to all the children for showing great sportsmanship and support for each other. A special well done to Exeter for winning the Upper School Cup, and Winchester for winning the Lower School Cup and coming out the overall winners!

END OF YEAR CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY

A reminder that we are looking forward to welcoming parents into school for our Final Celebration Assemblies on Friday 18th July. L/S will be held at 9:15 am and U/S at 10:15 am. As with last year, we have decided to hold the assemblies outside, under the shade of our lovely tree at the back of the school. If it is raining on the day, the assemblies will still go ahead, but will be held in the hall. If the weather is fine and the assemblies can be held outside, parents wishing to attend either of the assemblies will need to enter the school via the small green gate on South Street. This will be opened at 9:00 am for the Lower School assembly and at 10:00 am for the Upper School assembly. It is anticipated that each assembly will last around 40 minutes. (If the assemblies have to be moved indoors, entry will be via the main door.) We are looking forward to seeing you there.

YEAR 3 NEWS

We’ve had an exciting time in Year 3 this half term as we’ve been diving into the fascinating world of the Stone Age in our History lessons!

The children have been incredibly enthusiastic and curious as they’ve explored what life was like thousands of years ago. From learning about early human life and tools, to understanding how people lived, hunted, and created art, it’s been a journey full of discovery.

We all enjoyed our trip to Butser ancient farm and our creative projects! The children had a fantastic time building their very own Stonehenge models—using wotsits and biscuits! It was a fun (and slightly messy!) way to explore this iconic prehistoric monument and think about how it might have been constructed.

We also got hands-on with some cave art, just like early humans would have done. Using charcoal, oil pastels, and paint, the children created their own cave paintings and handprints. Their artwork was expressive, imaginative, and gave us a real sense of how people communicated through images long before writing existed.

We’re all looking forward to our upcoming Stone Age PBL (Project-Based Learning) Day, where the children will be making posters to showcase everything they’ve learned. We can’t wait to share their hard work and creativity with you!

We’re so proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children have been throughout this topic.

Thank you for your support this year. We wish you all lovely summer holidays.

YEAR 4 NEWS

As we wrap up another exciting and rewarding school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate our fantastic Year 4 pupils and all they’ve achieved. We are so proud of every single one of them!

This half term has been especially memorable. In English, we explored the powerful book Out of the Ashes. The children engaged with the text with incredible maturity and empathy, tackling big ideas and expressing themselves with thoughtfulness and care. Their discussions and writing showed just how much they’ve grown—not just academically, but as people.

In PBL (Project-Based Learning), Year 4 became travel planners! They took on the challenge of organising trips around the UK, learning how to create detailed itineraries, ‘book’ transport and overnight stays, and make thoughtful choices based on budget and time. It was wonderful to see their teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills in action. Please do ask your child to share their travel plan-- they’ll love telling you all about it!

We are so impressed with the progress this year group has made, and they are now more than ready for the adventures and responsibilities of Year 5. Keep up the amazing work!

As we head into the summer break, we encourage all our pupils to keep reading. Why not take part in the Summer Reading Challenge? Visit your local library to sign-up.

Thank you to all our families for your support this year. Wishing you a safe, sunny, and fun-filled summer holiday!

The Year 4 Team

YEAR 5 NEWS

As we wrap up the term, we’re delighted to share some wonderful moments from Year 5!

‘Bombed Out’

Our end-of-year performance, Bombed Out, was a huge success! The children sang beautifully and acted with incredible enthusiasm. It was a joy to see them come together as a true team, showcasing their talents and hard work. We were honoured to welcome two very special guests—Clem and Kenneth—who were themselves evacuated during the Second World War. Their presence made the event even more meaningful and provided a living connection to the history we’ve been exploring.

Goodnight Mr Tom

Throughout the term, the children have immersed themselves in the story of Goodnight Mr Tom. This much-loved novel has sparked engaging conversations and helped deepen their understanding of what life was like for children during the war. Their empathy, curiosity, and maturity while working on this unit have been incredibly impressive.

Transition Days

Our transition activities have gone smoothly, and Year 5 is looking ahead with excitement and confidence. The children are raring to go and eager to embrace the new challenges that await them in Year 6. We couldn’t be prouder of their readiness!

We wish everyone a restful and joyful summer break. Thank you for your continued support.

YEAR 6 NEWS

As usual we have had another busy half term.  Lessons have covered science experiments on forces, Macbeth in English, pizza making in DT and Gaudi in Art.  The children enjoyed making clay models in the style of Gaudi then decorating them in colours that represent the artist's work in Barcelona.

The Business Challenge was also a main feature this half term.  The children enjoyed being CEOs of their companies.  They learnt what is involved in running a business and that it is not all about profit! The Year 6 team would like to thank parents for your support in this venture.  Year 6 chose Verity’s Gift as their charity and donated £192.90.

Sports Day was a really fun day with lots of events to challenge the children.  Once again, we had fabulous weather.  The highlight of the day was the Year 6 obstacle race - great balancing of beanbags!

All the children have enjoyed their transition visits.  These can be a bit daunting but they all came back enthusiastic about their new schools.

The Year 6 team would like to thank all the children's parents for their support this year and wish the children all the best in their new schools.

E-SAFETY TIP –   Jeffy YouTube Content

Parents and educators are being urged to stay vigilant about a YouTube character named Jeffy, whose videos may appear child-friendly but contain highly inappropriate material.

Despite the cartoonish puppet style, Jeffy’s content includes strong profanity, sexual references, violence, and offensive stereotypes. These videos are not suitable for children and have been linked to imitative behaviour that could pose real-world risks.

To protect children, it’s essential to monitor their online activity and use parental controls to block harmful content. If a child has viewed Jeffy videos, respond calmly and encourage open conversation without naming the character directly, which could spark further curiosity. For safer viewing, platforms like YouTube Kids offer more appropriate alternatives.

Stay informed and proactive to ensure a secure digital environment for young viewers.

BOSMERE PARENT TEACHING ASSOCIATION (PTA)

Ever wondered about the PTA and what involvement in it looks like? Well look no further…

Who’s involved?

The Head Teacher, a number of school staff who kindly volunteer their time, and a handful of parents make up the core group of the PTA. Other parents also volunteer to help on an ad hoc basis, e.g. at events such as Superstars, film nights and school discos.

Where/when?

The PTA meets a small number of times a year, during term time, to work together to organise events for the pupils which also raise funds for the school. The meetings are not very long and are generally held on Wednesday evenings in the staff room. It’s a friendly group with a good sense of humour.

What needs to be done?

Currently the PTA has two co-chairs, a treasurer and a secretary/minute-taker in terms of “official” roles, as well as other members who attend the meetings. As needed, members of the PTA take away agreed actions to progress outside the meeting.

Fundraising events

The PTA puts on some of the most well-loved events in the school calendar: discos, raffles, secrets rooms, film nights and superstars!

PTA fundraising also takes the form of the pre-loved uniform sales, Christmas art cards/gifts, Christmas performance photos, audience donations at performances, and the clothes bank by the school gate.

Where does the money go?

This is a popular question! Currently the PTA has been fundraising for a sustained period of time to raise the funds needed to replace the school minibus and we are almost at our target! Watch this space for news in the near future. After the minibus has been secured, there will be an opportunity to spend PTA funds raised in future on other items for the enrichment of the pupil experience at Bosmere.

Anyone interested in attending or volunteering is always warmly invited. Equally if you have any feedback for the PTA or ideas on which to spend the money raised, please get in touch.
