Summer 1 2025

MESSAGE FROM MRS ROBINSON

We have had such a positive first half of the Summer Term in every year group. I was particularly proud of each and every child in Year 6 for the way they tackled their SATs tests last week, showing real resilience and commitment to their learning. They have done their very best and that is all that matters. I hope they all remember now, whatever their results, SATs tests do not reflect who they are as individuals.

STAFFING NEWS

It’s been another calm half term with no members of staff leaving and nobody new starting!

YEAR 3 NEWS

Year 3 have begun their second history project this term which is a study of the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We have started to look at cave paintings in art and studied how people lived in the Paleolithic period. Everyone is now looking forward to our trip to Butser Ancient Farm where we will be doing some hands-on history!

In English lessons, the children have been reading picture books from an author called Paul Geraghty and then writing book reviews of our favourite stories. We have also started our fairy tale unit. The children really enjoyed our PBL fairy tale day where we dressed in costumes, were visited by the big bad wolf and designed our own fairy tale book covers.

At the start of the half term, all classes had fun visiting Dell Quay to finish their rivers unit. We all did some river field work which involved getting into the water. Those children who were unlucky enough to get a wellie boot full of water said it was freezing!

We look forward to seeing some of you at the drop, stop and calculate next half term.

YEAR 4 NEWS

As we wrap up another exciting half term, Year 4 have, as always, been very busy!

Our reading skills have been developing, with children showing increasing fluency, comprehension, and confidence. We've especially enjoyed diving into our English unit based on The Promise—a powerful story that has sparked thoughtful discussions and some impressive writing. We made links with our Science topic by planting seeds, just like the character in the story, helping us to understand the themes of growth and change in a hands-on way. We have also begun using oracy stems to help structure our speaking and listening in class. It has been wonderful to see pupils using these with growing confidence.

In Geography, we have been exploring the UK and developing our map skills. The children have been using traditional Atlases and DigiMaps. It has been fantastic to see them navigate and interpret maps like true geographers!

Our DT project — designing and making torches — brought both challenges and triumphs. While plastic bottles proved tricky to work with, many children demonstrated fantastic resilience and problem-solving. A big well done to everyone who kept going and made their torches shine!

A reminder that the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) will take place shortly after half term. Please keep practising over the break — little and often is the key to success!

Finally, huge CONGRATULATIONS to 4AW, who have won the Times Tables Rock Stars challenge two weeks in a row! Can 4S and 4JH rise to the challenge and take the crown next time? The competition continues over the half term — let’s see who will be victorious!

YEAR 5 NEWS

A big well done to 5P who have begun their swimming lessons with great enthusiasm. It's wonderful to see their confidence grow in the water, and we look forward to watching them progress over the coming weeks.

All three Year 5 classes recently had the fantastic opportunity to visit Fort Nelson as part of our World War II topic. The children showed great engagement and curiosity, impressing us with their insightful questions and excellent behaviour throughout the trip. It was a valuable experience that brought history to life in a meaningful way. Building on this, we have now started our new WWII history topic, with a particular focus on the Home Front and Evacuation. The children have embraced this topic with enthusiasm, exploring what life was like for children during war time, from rationing to air raid shelters. They have shown great interest and have taken part in thoughtful discussions and we look forward to deepening their understanding in the weeks to come.

YEAR 6 NEWS

An awful lot of things have happened in Year 6 since the last newsletter.

Firstly, the children attended the Isle of Wight residential at Little Canada. From the moment the children boarded the coaches and said a fond farewell to their parents, to the emotional return home, everyone had a brilliant time. It started with the crossing over the Solent to the IOW. The children handled the travel, and carrying their cases, extremely well. On entering the gates of Little Canada there were “ooos” and “aaahs” at the various activities that could be seen from the coach. We next went and explored our own little homes for the week. The fun started straight after lunch with our first activities. All the volunteers were immensely proud of how the children approached each new challenge they faced all week. We are sure that the memories they made will stay with them forever. Thank you to all the adults who attended and gave up their spare time to participate.

The Year 6 children who did not go to the IOW attended a fun day at The Peter Ashley Centre. Looking at the photographs, they also had a wonderful time.

It was back to school after the Easter break and straight into preparing for our SATs tests. The children were also up for this challenge. They have worked so hard over the last few months and should feel really proud of all they have accomplished. The Year 6 team certainly are! The year group were then rewarded with an epic water fight. We were joined by Mrs. Robinson and Mr. Adam. I think the children really enjoyed getting the members of staff soaked.

We still have a lot of work to do and a lot of fun to look forward to.

SUPERSTARS

Unfortunately, the forecast of thundery showers (the worst weather so far in May) forced us to move Superstars to Thursday. Apologies, once again, to any parents who were not able to attend as a result. We are always very mindful of this, but unfortunately cannot control the weather! Lots of juggling things around, but thankfully it didn’t deter from another fantastic Superstars Event. A huge thank you to all parents and staff for supporting this event and thank you to the PTA for all their hard work. Once again it makes me so proud seeing the children (and parents) enjoying themselves so much. Thank you to Tesco for supplementing the cost of the doughnuts for “Doughnut Delight”, Pizza Hut for supplying the pizzas and Mr Dagostino for being on site selling ice creams. The money is still being counted and I will let you know how much we managed to raise next half term.

Well done everyone!

WARM WEATHER

As we move into the second half of the Summer Term, the weather will hopefully be getting warmer once again. Please can we remind adults to apply sun cream to children before they come into school on hot days. It is also good for the children to have a hat/cap to wear at break times. Please also ensure your child has their water bottle with them every day.

WELLBEING TIP

Honesty and working together

Communication is key! Share your concerns and feelings openly with us. Honesty helps us to manage the right support and accurately signpost you to other agencies.

No Judgment: Please remember that we are here to help, not judge. Being honest about difficulties can lead to us helping and referring you to the most relevant support.

Support Networks: Professionals can connect parents with additional resources and support networks, which can be incredibly beneficial.

Honesty and openness can make a significant difference in the support and guidance you can receive, as well as building relationships with those who will support you in school. Honest communication builds trust on both parts.

Honesty is especially necessary when discussing your child’s absence. It is common for messages to be received about a child being unwell when they are actually still away on holiday. Remember, we are non-judgemental and honesty really is the best policy.

Being honest is scary as it makes things “real”. Bosmere has an open door policy and you are always welcome to pop in, call or email to share any worries or concerns you may have.

Bosmere coffee mornings are also a great way to meet other like-minded parents/carers for a hot cuppa and a sweet treat. Go on, give yourself 10 minutes!

If we can’t help we’ll probably know someone who can!
