MESSAGE FROM MRS ROBINSON
Welcome everyone to the second of our Bosmere Newsletters for the Autumn Term. I cannot quite believe we are approaching the end of this term, and I know all the children are excited about Christmas!
We have all been incredibly busy preparing for all the activities we had going on in school for Christmas. It started with our Carol Service held at St Faith's Church on the 3rd December. Thank you to all the parents who made time to come and watch their children singing their hearts out – weren’t they all amazing! Thank you for all those who contributed to the Church collection. A total of £202.67 was collected, all of which will go towards PTA funds for the purchase of the new mini bus.
Once again I have had the privilege of watching all the year group performances and want to say how proud I am of every child. From the lead characters to the stagehands, every child gave their all, which is a true reflection of what Bosmere Junior School is all about. I was incredibly proud of everyone – well done and thank you!
I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope that you all have a wonderful break. I look forward to welcoming all the children back to school on Monday 5th January 2026.

STAFFING NEWS
Unfortunately, we will be saying goodbye to Miss Dawes at the end of this term. She has secured a permanent contract at another school so we would like to wish her all the best for the future. She will be extremely missed by us all.

|
CHRISTMAS RAFFLE
Our Christmas Raffle was drawn on Monday 15th December during the whole school assembly with some fabulous prizes. Congratulations to our lucky winners.
We would like to thank all the local businesses for supporting us by donating prizes: Mother Kelly’s Emsworth, Horizon Centre, Station Café Havant, Fishers Farm, Stansted House, Northney Tea Rooms, Kindi Toys, Tesco, Elegant Nails, Mays Massage by Areeya, Pook Lane Riding School, Endless Gifts and last but not least all those parents who donated gifts.

REVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR
Thank you to everyone who contributed food items for our Reverse Advent Calendar. The Beacon Foodbank were overwhelmed with your generosity.

YEAR 3 NEWS
This half term, we have been embracing Christmas. The children have enjoyed writing letters to Santa and his chief elf, Erol, and had the fantastic opportunity to visit the Church to learn about Advent and sing carols together. Another highlight was our Christmas Extravaganza where the children’s enthusiasm and talent truly shone. Thank you for your support in making this term so special.
Looking ahead to next term, we are excited to explore our new topics: The Egyptians and Rivers. Early in the term, the children will experience an Egyptian Day, where the children can step back in time with the assistance of VR headsets and some Egyptian artefacts. We will also be visited by Portsmouth Water, who will lead us in hands-on water cycle activities. As we wrap up this term, we wish all our families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we look forward to another exciting term ahead!

YEAR 4 NEWS
As we reach the end of a wonderfully busy term in Year 4, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the children’s continued focus and enthusiasm in class. Their hard work has shone through—even as Christmas excitement builds!
A highlight of the past few weeks has been our trip to St Faith's Church for the Carol Service. It was lovely to see the children singing with confidence and enjoying the special atmosphere. We were all very proud of our Year 4 choir members and readers - thank you for representing our year group so beautifully! We are also building plenty of excitement for our upcoming Nativity, and we would like to say a huge thank you to all families for helping with costumes. Your generosity in supporting the Secrets Room and contributing to our Reverse Advent Calendar donations has been truly appreciated too.
We also enjoyed a very successful Reading Buddy trip to Fairfield. The children loved sharing books with Year 2, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming their readers to us in the New Year.
In English, the children have continued to immerse themselves in our Romans topic, producing fantastic pieces of persuasive writing for and against joining the Roman Army. In maths, we have been exploring fractions and measurement, and we would be grateful if you could continue to practise telling the time at home, alongside the ongoing focus on times tables.
Thank you again for all your support this term. We wish all our families a restful Christmas break and a very happy New Year. We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for an exciting Spring Term!
Thank you for your continued support!

YEAR 5 NEWS
Swimming Lessons
5S are coming to the end of their swimming lessons. Their growing water confidence and resilience have been wonderful to see. Well done, 5S!
Looking ahead, 5L will begin their swimming lessons on Friday 23rd January. Further details will be shared via ParentMail closer to the date.
End-of-Year Production – The Magic of the Mayans
The children worked incredibly hard on their end of term production, The Magic of the Mayans. They delivered their lines and songs with great enthusiasm. A huge thank you to all parents for your support in helping the children learn their lines and prepare costumes – it makes such a difference!
Carol Concert
We were delighted with the children’s beautiful performance at the Church for the Carol Concert. Their singing was full of joy and festive spirit – a wonderful way to celebrate the season!
|
|
YEAR 6 NEWS
This half term, Year 6 have been focusing on geometry and translation in maths, developing their understanding of how shapes move and change position.
In English, we have been learning about the life of Charles Dickens and studying A Christmas Carol. The children produced some fantastic descriptive writing, particularly when characterising Scrooge and describing his gloomy home.
We were also lucky to be visited by ‘This is my Theatre Company’, who delivered an engaging movement and character workshop, followed by a performance of A Christmas Carol. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gathered plenty of inspiration for our own upcoming Christmas performances - especially in how to move, act, and embody different characters.

ENGLISH NEWS
The Magic of Reading This Christmas — Building Towards the 2026 National Year of Reading
As we head into the festive break, we would like to take a moment to celebrate the magic of reading—something we will be continuing to champion as we look ahead to 2026, the National Year of Reading. This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to strengthen children’s love of books and build lifelong reading habits together.
Sharing a cosy bedtime story, exploring a new adventure, or listening to a favourite tale as a family all play an important role in developing confidence, imagination and curiosity. Christmas is also the perfect time to remember that books make fantastic gifts, opening doors to new ideas, new words and new worlds.
Don’t forget that stories come in many forms. A visit to the local library can inspire reading excitement, and audiobooks are ideal for quiet moments, long journeys, or enjoying together during the holidays.
Over the break, you might set aside a family reading time, take turns reading a chapter each night, enjoy a festive story together, or let your child choose a new book to dive into. Revisiting old favourites is just as valuable.
Please also encourage children to keep filling in their reading diaries, ready to be checked in the New Year as we continue our journey towards a year celebrating reading nationwide.
The Library is running a competition encouraging children to read at least two books over the Christmas holidays and to write a review of each of them. Reviews can be handed into the Library by Thursday 8th January. One of our Pupil Librarians, Emma, has created a poster giving all the details:

LIBRARY NEWS
The Pupil Librarians have been actively involved in promoting and judging our latest competitions. The winner of the Funny Food Poetry Competition was Eliza Treagus (6K) with her amazing, illustrated poem ‘The Silly Supper Show’, and James Cameron (3D) was second with his ‘Apples’ poem.
|
|
|
|
Our next two competitions leading up to Christmas presented an opportunity for the Pupil Librarians to create some eye-catching posters:
|
|
|
At the time of writing, there have been lots of entries to these competitions; the results will be in the next Bosmere News. Watch this space!
The Pupil Librarians have made a huge contribution to the smooth running of the library this term as well as being involved in the competitions, so we all had fun decorating the library (using scrap paper) and playing games at the Pupil Librarians’ Christmas Party.

ECO NEWS
This term, we’ve taken exciting steps towards a greener future! As we do every year, each year group has successfully hosted a Secrets Room event, encouraging pre-loved shopping and reducing waste. Our pupils also showcased their creativity by making amazing Christmas decorations from recycled materials. In addition, we proudly presented our Climate Action Plan to the school governors, outlining our commitment to sustainability and reminding them of the incredible work we already do! As Miss Dawes prepares to leave at the end of term, we are delighted that Miss Lawrence will take over as Eco Council lead and Sustainability Leader, continuing our mission to make positive environmental changes.

E-SAFETY TIP - Whatsapp Add All Groups
The holiday season is a time for celebration, relaxation and spending well-earned time with loved ones. While this period will hopefully be calm, it’s important that parents and educators acknowledge there are still things we can do to make these weeks as safe as possible for the young people in our care.
Of course, it’s not immediately obvious what can or should be done to stay safe over the festive season. This free guide offers expert advice on the steps you can take to enjoy a less fraught winter break, safeguarding any youngsters who might be present for the celebrations.

SMARTPHONE FREE CHILDHOOD
We know that many families are concerned about the impact of smartphones and social media on children’s wellbeing — and you are not alone.
What age would you prefer to buy your child a Smartphone?
At Bosmere, we are exploring how we can support families who would ideally like to delay smartphone ownership until after age 15. Would you consider signing the Smartphone-Free Childhood Parent Pledge? The numbers of parents signing the pledge are rising across Hampshire and the UK.
https://www.smartphonefreechildhood.org/parent-pact
We want to empower parents to make confident, informed choices — and to know that they are not alone in choosing a different path.
We'd love to see more Bosmere parents sign the pledge; your name will not be visible to anyone else. Obviously, it is not legally binding and you might decide later that your child is ready...but we feel that the most valuable part of signing the pact is giving parents the confidence to know that they don't have to provide a smartphone to their child because everyone else wants to do the same.

WELLBEING TIP
Consequences and decision making is difficult enough especially when your child is in a heightened state! Mrs. Lever is co-facilitating a small group known as the Nurturing Programme and these top tips are part of the sessions.
If you would like further info please contact Mrs Lever.

CAR PARKING
Once again, we have been contacted by residents who live close to the school complaining that some parents consistently park inappropriately and are even becoming confrontational with them. Please could we ask you to use our Park and Stride facilities and be respectful of the local residents.

PTA NEWS
Since our update in the summer newsletter, we are pleased to be joined by some new PTA members at meetings, and volunteers at events, who are Year 3 parents, and who bring with them experience from being on the PTA at Fairfield Infants. As ever, new attendees/helpers are always welcome.
What’s on
We have continued to work on a number of events all in aid of reaching the funds necessary to replace the school minibus.
We have a forward plan for events in 2026: more on those to come!
|
|
|
Halloween
We really enjoyed being “too ghoul for school” at the Halloween discos in late October before half term! It was such a pleasure to be joined by so many parent and staff volunteers who filled sweet bags, set up the hall, sold hot dogs and sweets, painted disco-goers’ faces, as well as who supervised the drinks stall and the quiet room. We had even more volunteers for the Lower School disco than the Upper School disco, so any more Upper School helpers would be much appreciated next time.
Funds
At our recent PTA meeting in mid-November, our treasurer Jacqui took us through the monies raised per event. A snapshot is as follows.
Discos: £1080.88 (excludes outgoings on sweets and DJ etc)
2x Non Uniform Days: £312.72
Pre-loved uniform: £89.40
Total income: £1483.00

Minibus coming soon
The fundraising plan for the minibus has been on-going for a long time. It’s not untypical for people to ask us where all the money they donate is going, and we have been steadfastly working towards this goal.
We will part-exchange or sell the existing minibus to make sure we get good value for money for that as part of the replacement process. We have also been extensively looking at the minibus market for the best type for our school.
Thanks for your support
Most recently, there have been lots of fundraising opportunities in the festive season with Christmas carols and performances, the Class Fundraising products featuring your children’s art, as well as our popular Christmas raffle, guess the name of the giant cuddly puppy competition, and buying Christmas performance photos.
