Eco News September 2023

We have a new Eco Club consisting of several members from last year and many new faces too.

Take a look at the minutes of the meetings to see what we discussed, what we agreed, and what we did.

We visited the Jubilee Orchard, looked at the vegetable plot (where we had successfully grown lots of tomatoes) last term, and admired the willow dome with its new 'hair cut'! (Thanks to Mr Moore!) We are going to use the willow prunings to create some willow lanterns later in the term.

We sent home details of how to apply for the Blue Peter Green Badge - see the News article here.

Walktober

Information about the Hampshire County Council competition linked to sustainable travel to and from school was shared; see the News article here.

Planting acorns in recycled newspaper plant pots

Pictures of Mrs Dunn’s sunflowers planted last year in Eco Club were shared followed by a video on how to make recycled newspaper plant pots. Everybody made a recycled newspaper plant pot, filled it with compost and planted 3 acorns to take home with advice on how to care for them. More photos here.

We shared some Bosmere library books about endangered animal species and conservationists, with a challenge to the children to research an endangered species and bring some info to our next meeting.
